Media Optimization Update
By admin • June 23, 2025
> **Available in version 2025.1-623** This update introduces automatic image compression for all uploads, regardless of where they come from. Whether images are uploaded by users, admins, or background processes, they are now automatically optimized for storage. As part of this optimization process, **all image files are automatically converted to the modern AVIF format**, which offers high compression efficiency while preserving visual quality. Regardless of the original file type (JPEG, PNG, GIF, etc.), images are re-encoded as `.avif` on the server. This standardization significantly improves both storage and delivery performance. On average, this results in a **reduction of disk usage by over 80%**, depending on the image format and resolution. ### Benefits of This Update: - Smaller image file sizes with visually consistent quality - Faster image delivery and loading times - Reduced bandwidth usage and server load - Unified handling of image assets across the system There is **no configuration required**. The conversion and compression happen automatically at the time of upload. Existing image uploads remain unaffected, and all workflows continue to function as expected. > **Note:** > Image uploads may take slightly longer due to the file conversion process. This change is part of our ongoing work to make media management more efficient, scalable, and optimized for modern web platforms.
